The supreme court gets the priviledge of interpreting the constitution. It isn't safe to let a child rapist or murderer buy a gun. No, the process to get a ccw is vastly different than to buy a gun. When buying a weapon, the FFL dealer will run your info through an automated check system (NICS), and will either be green lighted, denied, or put on hold. With a ccw, you are fingerprinted, those prints are run through a background check with the sheriff or local agency, they then are sent to the issuing authority of the state (either the state bureau of investigation or attorney general) and a check will be performed at the state level.
